  • The cabinet was inspired by the proportions of an old chest of drawers. The finished piece stands just 14 inches high. As well as being a feature piece the cabinet can function as a jewellery case.
  • The body is made from Flamed Beech from Fife with fine Walnut stringing. All of the internal surfaces and the drawers are dyed blue.
  • The drawers are completely lined in light blue suede.
  • The bottom drawer is sufficiently deep to have a shelf and a small tray. The tray is made from Flamed Beech and is strong but very delicate at 2mm thick.
  • The cabinet is finished with a very durable lacquer.

    • Inspiration came from an old travelling trunk with leather fittings translated into wood to create a unique piece.

    • Exhibited and sold at a furniture making exhibition in Grey Friar’s Kirk, Edinburgh.

    • A covering of Ripple Sycamore is complemented by the richness of Walnut representing leather fittings – straps, carved buckles, and corner protectors. A great deal of hand made work went into this box.

    • Marbled paper and matching green leather were used to line the box.

    • Two trays stacked inside the box over an open bottom section to house private papers/letters. Both trays were dyed a dark green and lined with green leather to match internal linings.

    • All hardware in brass – substantial machined hinges (95 degree “stop”)

and lock.

    • Wax finished.
