Gentleman’s Trunk box

  • Inspiration came from an old travelling trunk with leather fittings translated into wood to create a unique piece.
  • Exhibited and sold at a furniture making exhibition in Grey Friar’s Kirk, Edinburgh.
  • A covering of Ripple Sycamore is complemented by the richness of Walnut representing leather fittings – straps, carved buckles, and corner protectors. A great deal of hand made work went into this box.
  • Marbled paper and matching green leather were used to line the box.
  • Two trays stacked inside the box over an open bottom section to house private papers/letters. Both trays were dyed a dark green and lined with green leather to match internal linings.
  • All hardware in brass – substantial machined hinges (95 degree “stop”) and lock.
  • Wax finished.
